The current issue of the SektorReport Mobility for Q4 2024 focuses on the ongoing strategic shift in propulsion technology by top-tier OEMs and its impact on German automotive suppliers.

While the political and regulatory landscape continues to tighten, car manufacturers are adopting different propulsion strategies. As a leader among traditional manufacturers, Volvo plans to exclusively produce battery-electric vehicles starting in 2030, thereby driving the paradigm shift in mobility. Despite a significant hype around electric vehicles in recent years, expectations are now tempered due to sluggish sales figures and expiring subsidies, particularly in regions outside of Europe. As a result, German premium manufacturers such as BMW and Porsche are taking a more technology-agnostic approach, aligning their strategies with customer demand. In this context, German automakers must closely monitor current developments to seize emerging opportunities for collaboration with OEMs, leveraging technological leadership in a dynamic market.

The investment by BMW i Ventures in DeepDrive’s innovative wheel hub technology for electromobility, highlighted in the Deal Report, illustrates these technology-agnostic trends. At the same time, M&A multiples and the volume and number of transactions present a slightly positive picture of the overall market as the year 2024 concludes.
